I have actually been using my own customizable search engines for quite some time using my iGoogle home page. The most useful one that I use is like the rollyo that I created which is a torrent search. I actually prefer using a custom search on iGoogle since my home page is set customized. Having to go to another site would simply be too many extra steps. I am a mac user and I do not use firefox so it is just easier to set this type of thing up with Google.
